Terms of Use

The service

Roots lets families keep a shared tree and shared dates, with in-app reminders. It is provided free of charge. We may add optional paid features in the future; the core tree and reminders remain free.

Your account

You must be at least 16 to create an account (younger relatives can appear in the tree, added by an adult). Keep your sign-in details private; you are responsible for activity under your account.

Content and ownership

You own the content you add. You grant us the permission needed to store and show it to your family group. You must have a reasonable basis to add information about other people, and you must not add content that is unlawful, abusive or knowingly false.

Once a relative claims their profile, they control it. Changes to other people go through the family-approval mechanism described in the app. We may remove content that violates these terms.

Acceptable use

No scraping, reverse engineering, automated access, or attempts to access other families' data. No impersonation of other people when claiming a profile.

Availability and liability

Roots is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it reliable, but reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee: please do not rely on them for legally or medically critical deadlines. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding 12 months (currently zero).

Termination

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
