What Roots is

Roots is a shared family-tree and family-dates app. Because the whole point is remembering people, we hold personal information about you and about relatives you add. This policy explains what we store, why, and what control you have.

What we collect

Account data: your name, email address, language and reminder preferences, and a profile photo if you upload one. Sign-in is handled by our platform provider (Base44) and, if you choose, Google.

Family data you enter: names, relationships, dates (birth, anniversary, memorial), optional photos and notes about relatives, including relatives who do not have an account.

Technical data: basic device/browser information and error reports needed to keep the app working. We do not run advertising trackers.

Information about other people

When you add a relative, you are responsible for having a reasonable basis to share their details with your family. Relatives can claim their own profile at any time and take control of it; from then on only they can edit it directly. Anyone in a family can ask us to remove their profile by writing to the address below.

Who can see your data

Only members of your family group can see your family tree and dates. We never sell data and never share it with advertisers. Service providers that host the app (Base44 and its cloud infrastructure) process data on our behalf under contract.

How long we keep it

Data stays as long as your family keeps using Roots. If you delete your account, your personal account data is removed within 30 days. Tree data that other family members still rely on (for example, your place in the tree) remains, with your account no longer linked to it, unless you ask us to remove it.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data from the app's settings, or by emailing support@roots.app. If you are in the EU/UK you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority. Israeli users are covered by the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981.

Cookies and local storage

We use strictly necessary storage (your session, language choice and accessibility settings). Analytics, if ever enabled, will only run after you explicitly consent inside the app.
